ANN ARBOR – The Industrial Hemp Association of Michigan – iHemp Michigan – is hosting its board elections on Feb. 19. Current President Blain Becktold said in this video interview that the board will remain the same, but some new members may be added.

Also in this interview, Becktold talked about how the Michigan industrial hemp program will fall back under the US Agricultural Department program, perhaps prompting more Michigan farmers to grow hemp. The license is much less expensive under USDA and is good for three years, instead of one like Michigan Department of Agriculture.

Another topic was the effort around the country to ban chemically enhanced hemp to make it similar to the psychoactive effects of Cannabis THC. The concern is children may think it is candy. Michigan will move delta-8, 9 and 10 to cannabis dispensaries, where to purchase these products you need to be 21 years old.

What’s more, hemp meal has been approved for laying hens. Becktold, the owner of Downonthefarm.biz, is now selling hemp meal to farmers.
