GRAND RAPIDS – Bamboo — a co-working company with other locations in Detroit, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak — is targeting a November opening date for its new Grand Rapids location, UICA building. It will include reopening the building’s theater, gallery space and rooftop patio.

The building will also serve as the new headquarters for incubator Start Garden, which offers resources and funds to new and growing businesses. Midwest House is the other anchor tenant. Bamboo is spending $3.1 million to renovate the 40,000 square foot event center.

“The designs are going to be really modern. A little polished, but also very creative. You’re going to feel like you’re in an art gallery with pops of color,” Bamboo co-founder Amanda Lewan told News 8. “It’s going to honor that unique architecture, but with a little bit of a modern touch.”

In this video interview, she provides more of the back story and future details, including pricing for entrepreneurs. A virtual membership is just $65 a month and a dedicated co-working space is $150 a month.
